EA Heavily Cuts Jobs at Mythic, Tiburon, Black Box and Redwood
Publishing giant EA has reportedly made severe layoffs at several of its studios including Mythologic, Redwood Shores, Disastrous Box and Craze developer Tiburon, with early estimates putt the amoun of jobs confounded at a astounding 1500.
The annunciation that Electronic Arts would be making cuts at a number of its satellite studios hit the play blogs earlier today, specifically targeting four developing houses in particular. Virginia-based EA Mythic, developer and wheeler dealer of Warhammer Online and Ultima Online, reportedly suffered losings of 80 employees – more or less 40% of its hands, according to a Tweet from Unreal volunteer Katherine Pitta.
Those laid off at Mythologic are barely alone, however. EA Black Box, developer of the Call for For Travel rapidly and Skate series, too reportedly suffered cuts. Perhaps most amazingly of all, though, are the reports of layoffs at Ea Tiburon and EA Sequoia Shores. The former is the developer of the hugely popular Madden NFL games, and though initial gross sales of Craze '10 were sluggish and "frustrating," even a easy year for Madden would be considered wildly flourishing for almost any other game out thither. Ea Redwood Shores, on the former hand, is the caller's HQ, home to studios that developed games similar Nonfunctional Space and the hugely popular Sims franchise.
This news came in advance of the caller's time period earnings call, through rumors and via Twitter, like a finicky Tweet from former EA staffer Eron Garcia: "Who just got laid murder: a. Me, b. Most of my department, c. HUGE chunks of EA, d. All of the Above." Though it is not uncommon for studios to go through yearly layoffs to trim the fat after mop up of the season's big vacation games, the perception of these layoffs is that they are significantly many severe than they power let been otherwise. The reports follow the announcement that Ea would be buying casual gaming studio Playfish for $300 million.
Early estimates place the number of jobs doomed at an unfortunately high 1500, though we will revise as necessary as to a greater extent accurate information comes in. Best of luck to any of our readers with the tough luck to represent caught in the cuts.
